Eastern Counties Omnibus has appointed Bernard Rootham as its next general manager.

He is currently general manager at another National Bus Company subsidiary, Alder Valley, and will take up his new post in June.

Mr Rootham has held a wide irange of positions in the bus industry, including more recently traffic manager at Bristol Omnibus and general manager at East Yorkshire Motor Services.

Mike Steel has been named as trunking manager for Reckitt and Colman's group distribution service.

He joins the company from International Ferry Freight, and his previous transport experience incluled periods in West Africa and the Middle East.

As trunking manager, Mr Steel is based in Hull and is responsible for the trunking operations in the movement of all Reckitt and Colman's products.

Trevor Housley is the new manager of the Leicester branch of Pickfords Heavy Haulage. He was formerly manager at the company's Park Royal branch, and has been with Pickfords Heavy Haulage for 20 years, originally in the engineering division.

Greater Manchester Transport has announced two new appointments.

John Lyons has been named as the district manager of the Rochdale district. He had previously been traffic superintendent in the district since 1970.

Greater Manchester's other new appointment is the traffic manager for Lancashire United Transport. He is Peter Morgan, until now a traffic officer at Warrington Borough Transport. Mr Morgan was previously with Leicester City Transport and is a member o the Chartered Institute o Transport and recently be came secretary of the Nortl West section.

Obituaries

We record with regret th, death of St Clair Marshall a 72 and Andrew McKay at 56.

Mr Marshall was a forme director and general manage of bodybuilders Marshall o Cambridge, with whom he hat been since 1946 until hi: retirement in 1978.

• Mr McKay, director general, Greater Glasgow PTI since 1976, was killed las week when his car crashed at the M6 in Cheshire.

He joined the London am North Eastern Railway it 1939, and was passenge manager with British Rai (Scotland) when he becam4 GGPTE director of planninl and development in 1973. Hi was associated particularlj with the modernisation of thi PTE underground, which wil be completed this October.
