Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE DON Safety Trophy for 1978 has been awarded to Quinton Hazell, for its Underider under-run protection device.

The Underider, as fitted to CM's test trailer, has already won a Design Council Award and an Automobile Association Gold Medal.

It is an energy-absorbing pivot tail-bar which, when fitted to the rear of a lorry or trailer, absorbs a rear end collision impact and prevents the deadly under-run.

Around 100 people are killed in Britain every year as a result of their cars running into the back of lorries and trailers.

In making the award, the judging panel took account of the fact that Quinton Hazell had set out to provide a higher standard of safety than is required by the current EEC directive. The panel also pointed out that the Underider gives direct benefits to the operator as well as to victims of under-run.
