AT a hearing of the Northern Licensing Authority at Newcastle upon Tyne, last week, the application of Mr. G. W. Wells, Blyth, to run tours and an express-carriage service from Blyth to

London was rejected. The proposed service was to operate at week-ends from May 1 to October 31. The fare to London would be £2 10s. return, including 9s. 6d. for meals.

In support of.the application it was stated that people were being refused seats on coaches to London, especially during the holiday period.

Objecting on behalf of United Automobile Services, Ltd.. Mr. J. L R. Croft said that this concern had been granted permission to operate more coaches on the London route and on excursions. Last summer some excursions were cancelled because they were not sufficiently well patronized.

Rejecting the application, the Licensing Authority, Mr. S. W. Nelson, said he considered that the extra coaches to be introduced by U.A.S. would meet all requirements.. There were already adequate excurs:ons to the Lake district and other resorts.
