4RCIAL-VEHICLE exhibits at the 26th annual

Poire de Paris, which has just opened, are confined to fire-engines, municipal machines of various kinds and big oil-engined mobile cranes. Other vehicles are excluded, because there are commercial-vehicle and agricultural tractor shows this year.

In the fire-fighting section, Renault, Latil, Citroen and Delahaye all have interesting displays. Renault shows a large new first-aid outfit for the City of Dunkirk. The pumps on this fast appliance have a maximum output of 100,000 litres per hour and work at pressures up to 213 lb. per sq. in. An emergency water tank of 600-litre capacity is carried and eight firemen are provided with comfortable accommodation in the body. The machine is intended to deal with fairly long-distance calls in the scattered industrial district around Dunkirk.

Another interesting Renault exhibit is a general-purpose vehicle for work in municipal parks and recreation grounds. This machine has a special body by Rhonelle, mounted on one of the smaller Renault industrial chassis, and the outfit can be used for a vihriety of work, such as watering, sweeping, garden-implement hauling and the transport of park seats.

A compact little first-aid fire outfit for the small town of . Chambery is also shown by Renault. This machine has a 2,800-litre water tank, and the pumps, like those on the large machines, deliver 100,000 litres per hour.

Latil has a novelty in the way of a fast tender, incorporating the M.I.B.-type 30-cwt. chassis, carrying hose reels and hook-ladders. Delahaye shows several excellent medium-powered fire-fighting outfits which have been standardized for the Paris Fire Brigade and have proved remarkably useful.

'Amongst the petrol and oil-engined rollers, Barford and Perkins demonstrates a particularly handy small model. This is a 7-cwt. roller controlled from the ground and suit

able for light work of all kinds, such as footpaths, hard tennis courts, etc.

Although the vehicle department of the Foire is, for the reasons stated, smaller than usual, the engine section is of exceptional importance and here the great expansion in oilengine business in France is well illustrated. No fewer than 23 concerns exhibit compression-ignition engines, amongst the finest displays being those of Hispano-Suiza, Renault, which shows the 12-cylindered railcar unit, and the Cornpagnie Lilleoise de Moteurs, with a full range of the French Junkers engines.
