Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

`26A.

The Devizes U.D.C. has issued licences for six motorbuses belonging to the Bath Electric Tramway Co.

The trackless-trolley scheme for Hendon, like those for several other districts in this country, has been virtually abandoned. The L.G.O. Co.'s motorbuses now adequately serve the major part of the route on which the trolley buses were to run.

Mr. J. E. Davis informs us that he has now taken up his duties as manager of the New Peverell Road Car Co., Ltd., whose headquarters are at Oatland Mills, Devonport. At present the fleet is a small one and consistsof two Leylands and a Commer-Car ohervation ear. The last-named machine is used extensively for private-party hirings.

Brighton to Rottingdean.

The Brighton, Hove and District Railless Traction Bill has been passed by the Select Committee of the House of Lords, in so far as its provisions for running trackless trolley cars between Brighton and Rottingdean only are concerned. A rival tramways bill, which had necessitated the asking for trolleybus powers for other routes, has been withdrawn. The objection, before the Comptroller of Patents, against certain structural features of the Daimler Co.'s " K.P. L." motorbus, was lodged by Mr. Percy Frost-Sraitli, on behalf of the S.B. and S. Syndicate, whose interests are closely identified with Thomas Tilling, Ltd.

As we go to press, we are officially informed that the postpone

ment of the flotation of the new Premier Motorbus Co. is only temporary; that it will proceed at a

later date when the necessary rearrangements are made ; that none of the directors have resigned-contrary to certain reports in the daily Press ; and that those responsible for the initiation of the new undertaking do not regard the action which has been taken with regard to their patented transmission, as of serious importance.

Our Winnipeg correspondent advises us of the incorporation of the Winnipeg Motor Bus Co., with a capital of $400,000. The company is to run a service of single-deck motorbuses on the streets of Winnipeg. The road surfaces are all asphalt and there are practically no gradients. The local street-car service is totally inadequate, so that this promotion has good prospects of excellent business

The statement of the liquidator to the Vanguard Motorbus Co. has at last been issued, and it appears that the surplus of assets amounts to £103,193. This is to be satisfied by the issue of ordinary shares of ill each in the London General Omnibus Co., to be divisable amongst the shareholders of the Vanguard Co. as to 80 per cent. of the preference and 20 per cent. to the ordinary shareholders.

Mr. Stettauer, a Progressive member of the L.C.C., has placed a resolution before the Council, asking that motorbuses may be taxed for the use of the roads, apparently on account of the fact that the tramway has to pay for its monopoly of the highway.

Torquay Refuses Monopoly.

Torquay Town Council has received a letter from Motor Coaches, Ltd., intimating that if the Council would grant a privilege in monopoly for five years, the company would undertake to establish a first-class service of motor

omnibuses, coaches, chars-a-bancs, taxicabs and delivery vans, and pay the Council a sum equal to 10 per cent, on any profits which might be earned. At the meeting of the Council on 2nd May it was decided not to entertain the proposal.

Chars-a-banes for the Seaside.

" Commer-Car " chars-IL-banes have recently been ordered by the following parties : Mr. James Mather, of Mablethorpe ; Mr. A. Davies, of Bognor (seventh repeat order) ; the Teignmouth Motor Syndicate and Messrs. Grist Bros., of Torquay (repeat orders). The orders from these Torquay owners have been obtained as the direct consequence of excellent hill-climbing performances of their older " Comme.r-Car " vehicles over some of the hilliest roads in the Dartmoor area. It has also to be recorded that a passenger-carrying company in Bulgaria has ordered a single-deck " Commer Car."

Nottingham to Llandaff.

A deputation from Llandaff and Dinas Powis Rural District Council is to go to Nottingham to see the motor chars-ii-bancs belonging to Andrew Barton Bros. Both the Cardiff Tramwa.ys Co. and Barton Bros. have offered to provide Llanda.ff with a motorbus service, on terms.
