I2ccidents are caused by other people. That's the illogical belief of most drivers, says an AA report Risk and Safety on the Roads: Perceptions and Attitudes.
What's more, drivers underestimate the risk they pose to pedestrians because they believe themselves to be "higher in the animal pecking order". Drives are cocooned in their vehicles while pedestrians, posing no threat, are consigned to the bottom of the road-users' hierarchy.
