THE FUTURE of Star Bodies, the National Freight Corporation's bodybuilding and repair subsidiary, hung in the balance this week.

An NFC spokesman said that the York Trailer company is interested in acquiring the company, which had a trading loss of £70,000 during 1976.

He said that Star has not been trading profitably for some time and discussions are going on with the Transport and Salaried Staffs Association, the Transport and General Workers Union and the Furniture, Timber and Allied Trades Union.

"When we met last week Star Bodies was one of the things we talked about and one of the things we discussed was an offer from York Trailers to acquire the company if it comes on the market," said the NFC spokesman.

He said that the company, which employs 72 people, had been badly hit by the recession and had been having a tough time before then.

"During 1976 it did make efforts to increase the amount of repair work done as opposed to the new bodywork also carried out, but the company still made a substantial loss for the first time in recent years," he said.
