Pair of 'hopeless' applications thrown out

BIDS FROM TWO associated companies were labelled the most -hopeless" licence applications she had heard by the NorthWestern Traffic Commissioner, Beverley Bell.

Hat Scrap Metal Merchants and PBM & Sons Demolition, whose directors were Tiffany and Carly Mord, had each applied for a licence for five vehicles and five trailers.

Asked what sort of trucks they operated, Tiffany and Carly Mord said -nice ones'?

Asked how many wheels the vehicles would have and what weights they would be, she replied: "Do they not all have six wheels?"

Carly Mord said they had bought Hinos. Asked what size, she replied: "God knows."

The TC said she had been provided with bank statements of accounts in Slovenia. Although they showed enough money, they did not provide information about the payment of outgoings.

Questioned about finance, the Mords said all transactions were paid in cash. The employees were paid cash in hand and they admitted there were no records of wage payments or a record of the income from the businesses.

Refusing the applications, the TC said that she was completely sure that the two companies had no prospect whatsoever of reaching the required minimum 0-licensing standards.

She added that the directors simply did not know anything about commercial vehicles, and it appeared they might be a front for an operation by a third party.
