Court of Appeal cuts jailed HGV driver's ban by one year
A TRUCK DRIVER banned from driving for three years for causing the death of a 57-year-old mother has had his ban cut.
Three judges in the Court of Appeal ruled last week (June 9) that Christopher Henry Weech, of Ham Lane, Compton Dundon, Somerton, Somerset, should have his ban reduced by one year.
Weech, who worked for D & TJ Beal Haulage of Keinton Mandeville, was sent to prison for two years by Guildford Crown Court in February after admitting causing the death of Wanda Mary Harden from Crawley, Surrey, by dangerous driving.
His truck had ploughed into the back of Mrs Harden's car as she sat in a traffic jam on the A3 near Guildford in April 2008.
The Court of Appeal judges said it was not clear why the judge in the original case had imposed a ban above two years. Weech had an otherwise unblemished driving record and had driven 100,000 miles a year.
The Court of Appeal judges added that it was likely that Weech's future employment after prison would depend on his ability to drive.
