• Following the successful operation of its minibuses within the Medway area since deregulation, Maidstone and District Bus Company is to buy a further 24 Mercedes-based minis, worth over £500,000, for delivery this year.
The latest vehicles, which will join M&D's existing fleet of 40 minis introduced a year ago, will be based on Mercedes 609D converted by Reeve Burgess of Chesterfield. The 20-seaters will feature a number of improvements.
Director of Operations Roger Davies says the minibuses "Add a new dimension to our bus services. We're always being asked to expand our minibus operation and plant to strengthen our services in Medway with them before the end of the year." M&D was privatised seven months ago.
