Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

II Another manufacturer of semi-trailers has entered the market. Cranford Engineering Co„ of Mere Platt, Knutsford, Cheshire. intends to build vehicles to order and individual specifications.

The range of trailers to be offered includes flats and others with conveyor-discharge type bulk bodies suitable for use with grain, coal or potatoes and like commodities.

Main frame construction is comprised of 16 x 5.5in. l-beams with cross-members situated at the points where landing gear and suspension pads are mounted. At 2ft intervals along the length of the trailer the main beams are pierced to accept 4in x 1.75in. rolled-steelchannel cross-hearers laid across the full width of the unit. Side raves are welded to the outer ends of the cross-bearers in a position to provide a 1in. chock rail. Cross-bearers are ranged to permit the floorboards to lie flush with the top flanges of the main rails.

Rubery Owen M series suspension is used. carried on 22,500lb axles fitted with 16.5 x 8.625in. S-ca m brakes. A substantial underrun bumper is fitted as standard and the Keruing floors are laid in standard length boards secured by metal strips countersunk into the floor to provide a flush surface. This system is said to facilitate the removal of floorboards in the event of damage occurring, and also permits the whole deck to be turned end for end in the event of rapid wear of the rearmost boards taking place. Headboards of any chosen dimensions can be supplied.

Typical prices for the Cranford trailers are: 28ft long single-axle plated for 24-ton g.v.w., £800: 35ft long single:axle plated for 24-ton g.v.w., £860; and 35ft long tandem, plated for 32-ton g.v.w., £1,250.
