APART from at peak periods, North Wales has a surfeit of livestock transport, and for.nine months of the year operators are chasing each other for work. This was submitted to the North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. J. R. Lindsay, last week, on behalf of Williams Bros., Ltd., Queensferry, who objected to an application by R. D. Jones and Sons, Nantclwyd, Ruthin.

• For the applicants, Mr. G. P. Crowe said they wanted to extend the radius and conditions of three B-licensed vehicles for livestock work. For two vehicles they sought the addition of " fatstock for the Fatstock Marketing Corporation to abbatoirs as directed; stock for the animal breeding record organization, Llandrillo, as required."

One of these vehicles had a 65-mile radius, and they wanted the other vehicle, which was restricted to 45 miles, brought into line. They required the radius of the third. vehicle to be increased from 15 to 40 miles.

Mr. Crowe said farmers were now sending their beasts further afield for good prices, besides doing local work with their awn transport. The 15-mile vehicle was hardly worth keeping on the road.

Mr. I. Parry, of the Animal Breeding Record Organization, said Mr. Jones was a local operator whose vehicles were fumigated and kept 12 hours in a sealed garage before use. Williams Bros. nearest depot was at Denbigh.

Refusing the extension, Mr. Lindsay said the evidence was insufficient to justify anything beyond a straight renewal.
