Keywords : Castleford, Cleethorpes

AN application by Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd., Leeds, was heard this week by the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners. The company wanted an early renewal of their excursion and tours licences from Castleford and Knottingley, with 30 additional destinations from Knottingley and 13 additional destinations from Castleford. There was no opposition except for the inclusion of Cleethorpes as a destination, which was objected to by British Railways.

Maj. F. S. Eastwood granted the applications. He remarked that therehad been a change of attitude by the road

and rail objectors since an application for Cleethorpes was refused two years ago. As there had been no evidence of rail facilities for this resort he was granting it to Wallace Arnold.

Mr. J. Malcolm Barr, in evidence, said the only road objectors were the West Riding Automobile Co., Ltd., but they had withdrawn, probably because they realized that they were not satisfying the full demand.

For the railways, Mr. T. B. Atkins asked for any grant to be limited to 12 months. He reminded the Commissioners that this was the third time the company had asked for Cleethorpes on their licences.
