Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

(CM 21 December-3 January), you refer to various manufacturers and their possible future plans. You state that "Scania has yet to establish a manufacturing base within the EC . . ."

Scania has had a factory in the Netherlands for 25 years. Located at Zwolle, Scania Nederland BV started production in 1964 and this was the first Scania plant to be built outside Sweden.

To date about 110,000 trucks have been built there and 2,300 people are employed. Current production is at around 12,000 units per year and a recent investment pro gramme costing million was announced to further improve efficiency.

Scania also has a plant at nearby Meppel where truck cabs are produced.

Dutch production goes mainly to the original EC member countries, although some corn

es to the UK. Scania Nederland is a major and vital part of Scania and a well established manufacturing base in the EC.

Dermot Bambridge,

Public Relations Manager, Scania (Great Britain).
