Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the X type, has been developed by -:"ie Michelin Tyre CO.. Ltd. Mr. W. R. Good, M.I.Mech.E.. the company's chief engineer, referred to it in a paper entitled "Tyre Development," which he read last night to members of the Institute of Road Transport Engineert.

A characteristic of the construction is the arrangement of composite hightensile-steel cords disposed on the bias in three directions, these cords forming a foundation for the tread. The casing is made of textile plies.

This ,new tyre has a much flatter tread than others, and nearly all the deflection takes place in the Walk instead of partly in the tread and partly in the walls. The steel-cord foundation greatly reduces tread distortion and produces even and slow wear. •

Another characteristic is that cords of the plies forming the casing are AI right angles to the centre line a the -tyre. Such construction ensures maximum comfort and lateral stability.

During tests, Mr. Good said the tyre had been particularly successful. on cars, which were afforded excellent stability on corners.

Other points from the paper will te dealt with next week.
