AN accompanying illustration deplete One of the latest A.F.N. low-platform saloon buses built by the Oesterreichische Autemobil-Fabrik Gesellschaft, of Vienna. The motive power is supplied by a four-cylinder engine, the cylinders of which are cast en bloc, whilst the head is detachable. The bore and stroke are 84.5 mm. and 110 mm. respectively, and it is stated that at a speed of 2,200 r.p.m. 22 h.p. is developed. The engine is built up in unit form, with a single-plate clutch and a centrally controlled four-speed gearbox. The finaldrive is by spiralbevel gear. The back axle is provided with a differential cover plate of sufficient diameter to allow the differential and bevel gear and the propeller shaft to be withdrawn through it when necesaary, so that complete dismantling of the back axle can be 'avoided.

As our picture shows, the driver's seat is entirely enclosed, doors to the cab being provided on each side. With one at the side of the driver, 13 passengers can be carried, 12 being accommodated in four rows, three people in each. Each row, with the exception of the • third over the rear wheel, has its own entrance door on the near aide," access to the third row being by means of tip-up seats in the second row. Pl1E9.1.• made tyres (835 mm. by 135 ram.) are Jilted to the steel disc wheels, twins being used at the rear. .

The dimensions of the vehicle are as follow :3—Overall length, 18 ft. ; width, 5 Nt: ins.; and height, 7 ft. 3 ins. The floor of the vehicle ia 23 ins, from the ground. Provision is made for the carrying of luggage on the roof, access thereto' being by menus of a light steel ladder on the off side.
