IWAS IN VTTED to the Transport Research Laboratory to try out the Trucksim simulator on l December, so I was interested to read your views (CM 27 November). The reason that the simulator is sited in Berkshire could be something to do with the fact that's where TRL is based.
There are haulage companies here in southern England. many of who struggle to get new recruits because of the high cost of living here and something like Trucksim can only help this situation.
The experience was enjoyable and realistic; it has a great role to play in the evaluation of prospective drivers, the improvement of skills and in spotting weaknesses. The staff were extremely helpful and! hope that! was able to contribute to their research. If any drivers want to take part in this exercise before it goes into commercial use contact vvww.trucksim.co.uk as I believe there are still vacancies available.
