than 600 organisations, the Low Pay Commission is now touring the UK (having started in Scotland) to gather evidence on which to base its recommendations to the Prime Minister regarding the level of the minimum wage, and

the effect it will have. It will be asking organisations questions such as: • Should tips, bonuses and overtime be included in the minimum wage?

• Should there be different rates for people aged 16 to 25?

• What will the minimum wage mean for particular businesses and voluntary sectors?

The Commission is due to report to the Government by May 1998, after which the Government will make the final decision on the level of the national minimum wage.
