With the launch of the L2000 4x4 model at Hanover, MAN has completed its L2000 range. Eight and 10tonne GVW models will be offered with the same engines as the rest of the L2000 range. The Euro-1 and Euro-2 Four and six-cylinder engines span 153hp (114kW) to 217hp (162kW). Both chassis will be offered with a choice of selectable or permanent fourwheel-drive, driving through either ZF or Eaton five or six-speed synchromesh gearboxes. A two-speed transfer box offers up to 12-speeds for off-road use. The inter-axle differential can be locked to improve traction on rough terrain while there is an additional cliff lock on the rear axle. Hub-reduction axles are fitted front and rear. 4x4 eight and 10-tonners complete the L2000 range.

The flat-topped ladder type chassis is Fitted with long-travel parabolic leaf springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bar Front and rear. Three wheelbase options are offered: 2.9m, 3.3m and 3.6m. 10 R 22.5 single tyres are fitted all round. A tyre inflation system or compressed air tools can be operated from the on-board air system. ABS brakes are an option.

• MAN also showed its latest diesel/electric hybrid truck, developed from the G90 hybrid project (CM 20-26 May 1993). The L2000 is powered by the Euro-1 4.5 litre 153hp (11 4kW) four-cylinder engine or 40hp (30kW) asynchronous motor. Both drive through a Voith Midimat automatic gearbox with torque convertor. Changing from one power source to another is done at the touch of a button.

Powered by either NICAD or lead gel batteries, the L2000 has a top speed of around 65km/h (40mph) and a range of around 15km under electric power. NICAD cells add around 360kg to the chassis weight and lead gel around 680k9. Battery charging takes between five and eight hours. Experimental diesel/electric L2000 offers a 40hp motor.
