SAFER handling methods for liquid petroleum gases have been demonstrated by the Expanded Metal Company.
Under the direction of University of Surrey's Professor V.S. Griffiths, it has shown that its BLEVEX ignition explosion prevention system is effective.
Explosive quantities of Ethylene Oxide did not expode when ignited in a steel sphere coated with a filling weight of foil equivalent to 601b per tonne.
This represents 2.73 per cent, while complete protection was achieved with 24Ib per tonne content (1.09 per cent).
Ethylene Oxide is among a group of hazardous lpgs which includes Propylene, Propylene Oxide, Butadiene, and Vinyl Chloride.
