If the inclusion of coal mines in sight-seeing tours grows, I foresee the miners demanding entertainment bonus on top of everything else. The idea originated with the National Coal Board, who have combined with Cardiff Transport Department to run a weekly trip to Nantgarw Windsor colliery at Treforest.
An open-topped bus takes tourists on a two-hour drive, with an hour at the pit for a conducted tour by NCB officials. The fare of rl on the upper deck and 70p on the lower puts a premium on good weather which this summer has so far not justified.
