PL N for a 60-mile West Midlands relief road has been med cautiously by the Freight Transport Association.
Mi lands controller Martin Richards says that his region 31c mes the plan to build a west and north orbital route nn cting the M5 at Lydiate Ash, near Bromsgrove to the sed M42 at Tamworth.
Bu he says that if the southern section of the M42 had been ilt arlier, the congestion problems besetting the M5 and M6 ou d Birmingham might not now exist.
Th new route involves upgrading of sections of the A449 and 191 Jto dual carriageway and the construction of by-passes Du Id Stourbridge and Wolverhampton.
Total cost of the scheme is £51m, and it is due to be completed 193. The north orbital scheme replaces an earlier plan for a etween Brownhills and the 1116/M54 junction.
