Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Eight-speed gearboxes — the new 08750 David Brown with 750 lb /ft input torque capacity — are now available in Atkinson heavy trucks. And the 12-litre Rolls-Royce Eagle 220 hp six-cylinder joins the engine options.

Fitment of the David Brown eight-speed gearbox is initially being confined to the Gardner 8LXB 240 hp straight-eight, which is the highest torque engine Atkinson ordinarily fits. Later, the gearbox will be available as an option for Cummins-engined Atki nsons.

Specifying the eight-speed David Brown gearbox adds no more to the price of an Atkinson, compared with when a nine-speed Fuller gearbox is fitted. There is a weight saving of about 801b, however. When the 8.750 gearbox is fitted to Atkinsons, a 15in diameter twin-plate Borg and Beck clutch is used.
