• Dafs newly-published annual report for 1986 shows that the last pre-Leyland Daf year was a record one for the Dutch company. Net profit was up 66% on 1985, from HFL20.4 to HFL33.8 million (26.2 to 210.2 million), while vehicle production reached a new high of 15,600, against 14,382 in 1.985. The number of Daf Trucks employees rose by 626 last year to 9,304; 457 of these are based in the Netherlands.

Dafs share of the West European over 9.0-tonnesGVW truck market, in which the company sells about 90% of its vehicles, rose from 6.8 to 7.5% last year. The report says that the ATi range, introduced at the end of 1985, "greatly contributed to this success."

The new Daf organisation, following its take-over of Rover Group's CV activities, has been in business since April 6. Daf BV, the new holding company, is based in Eindhoven. Four operating companies are now controlled by Daf BV: Van Doorne's Bedrijfswagenfabriek Daf BY, Leyland Daf, Dal Finance Company NV, and Daf Special Products By.

Daf s commercial vehicle activities in Britain have been transferred from Daf Trucks (GB), which no longer exists, to Leyland Daf with its headquarters at Leyland. The assets and liabilities of Leyland Vehicles, Freight Rover and Daf Trucks (GB) have all been transferred to the new company.
