J. W. Dodsworth, director, said for the last seven years the club had accepted his quotation and he was paid twice yearly. The club would continue to collect the fares. He would not wish to advertise. The chairman of the Commissioners, Major-General Sir John Potter, pointed out that he would be able to do both these if the licence were granted.

After the Ministry had called in his driver's records he was informed a licence was required, said Mr. Dodsworth. He denied that he wished to revive the excursion licence formerly operated by his father.

Objecting for W. Pyne and Sons Ltd.. which runs excursions from Harrogate to all home matches, and West Yorkshire Road Car Co. Ltd., Mr. J. D. Walker submitted that these existing operators had been deprived of this traffic. Pyne was shortly to increase its fare to 5s and the stage return was 5s 9d which would be undercut by Dodsworth's 4s 3d, even allowing for the 3s annual club membership fee.

Club secretary Mr. J. B. Pickering said Pyne had let the club down in 1952 and had submitted too high a quotation in 1962. The club wanted to continue using Dodsworth.

Pyne's was Harrogate's established operator and as the bulk of the passengers were from there, they should carry them, its director D. Sharpe thought. A daily maximum of six vehicles was authorized but West Yorkshire also had similar excursions which were operated when his allocation was used up.

Dodsworth was granted a licence to pick up only in Borough Bridge with a vehicle allowance of one. Sir John suggested that as opposed to carrying only club members he should consider applying to carry anybody.
