THE steering committee for the transportation survey of South-east Lancashire and North-east Cheshire met in Manchester last Friday and approved the design of study that has been prepared by W. S. Atkins and Partners of Epsom, Surrey, who will now undertake the main study.
It is hoped to make a start on the £300.000 job in November and to complete the work in 21 years. The object is to determine the highway network and public transport requirements in 1981 and to forecast the pattern of development. A long-term estimate will also be made in the year 2000
