Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN application is to be made by Barton Transport, Ltd., Chilwell, Nottingham, to run a service to Gibraltar. If successful, the company will probably be the first to run coaches there. The route will be via Dover, Marseilles, Barcelona and Madrid.

In 1950, Barton made an unsuccessful application' to run a service to Austria, and is now trying again. The two trips could be commenced within two months of the applications being granted, but if sanction is not given until the winter, the services will not start until Easter, 1953.

FOUR Bedford municipal vehicles never shown in London before will be displayed by Vauxhall Motors, Ltd.. at the showrooms of Shaw and Kilburn. Ltd., Berkeley Square, London, W.1, from November 3-8, during the period of the Public Works Exhibition at Olympia.

One of these machines is a BedfordLacre road sweeper based on a shortwheelbase 3-ton chassis. The other three are new and comprise a BedfordEagle 1,000-gallon cesspool-emptier based on the 9-ton chassis, a BedfordEagle Compressmore 20-cubic-yd. refuse collector with a Neville crew cab, and a Bedford-Utilecon fire tender based on the 10-12-cwt. chassis.

RIBBLE SAFETY CAMPAIGN

A CAMPAIGN to reduce night-C.-I driving accidents has been launched by Mr. H. Bottomky, general manager of Ribble Motor Services, Ltd. He has called upon drivers employed by the company to set an example to other road users by always using a head lamp, even along illuminated roads."

In this manner, pedestrians may be warned of the approach of the, vehicle and be better able to judge its speed. Drivers emerging from side roads may also benefit by the warning. The practice of proceeding on side lights only is strongly to be condemned, says Mr. Bottomley, who also advises drivers to carry a clean rag with which to clean their windscreens whenever necessary.

R.C.A.F. ORDER FOR LANSING BAGNALLS

ALARGE order for aircraft-towing tractors has been gained by Lansing Bagnall, Ltd., Basingstoke, from the Royal Canadian Air Force. There was keen competition from American and other British manufacturers. Deliveries have already started, and the first consignment is being sent to Europe. Others will be sent to Canada.

The model concerned, the AM.160T, was recently tested by the R.A.F., towing a Lincoln bomber up a 1-in-40 gradient. It succeeded in competition with other tractors.
