AN INTERNATIONAL operator running nearly 60 trucks escaped with a warning after maintenance cheeks revealed a series of offences including loose wheel nuts and infrequent defect reports.
H&P Freightways appeared at a Leeds disciplinary inquiry before North Eastern Traffic Commissioner Tom Macartney. Issuing the warning, the TC accepted the company intended to put matters right.
It holds an international licence for 58 vehicles and 78 trailers in the North-East and was seeking to increase the authorisation at its Stockton-on-Tees depot from eight vehicles and eight trailers to 20 vehi des and 20 trailers,with a reduction of 12 vehicles and 12 trailers at its Hull depot.
Vehicle examiner Stephen Cave said over the past five years there had been 14 prohibitions and four refusals to clear. Brake defects on trailers had been highlighted at three annual tests.
Director Alan Dixon said staff from Stockton and Hull were being sent on VOSA vehicle inspection training courses; drivers had also been trained in defect reporting.
After receiving undertakings over maintenance, the TC granted the variation application.
