• 3M has launched a new doublesided adhesive tape —Scotch 4430 synthetic foam tape — which is designed for applications such as bonding panels in conjunction with rivets, low-performance bracket bonding and temporarily holding components during assembly The makers claim that the adhesive has good temperature performance and add that it features a polymeric closed-cell construction and is 0.8mm thick. The tape exhibits a good initial tack which will hold assemblies in position while the adhesive builds up bond strength.
In addition, the new tape is said to have good flow characteristics which help it to create an effective seal on rough or irregular surfaces. What's more it is resistant to plasticizers and so can be used on PVC without a reduction in bond performance.
