Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NIKER drivers working for Shell and o iave turned down a pay offer -tl around 20 per cent in total. Intri 1 action has not yet been men , but remains a cloud on the iz n unless the oil companies are in to improve on their offer.

l's offer to its tanker drivers and _distribution workers is 18 per n basic weekly wages, taking a 1 tanker driver from £78 to £92 a basic. The holiday agreement is proved, worth about another two nt in Shell's estimation.

rji ;e Te ce the 2000 Shell tanker drivers and ution workers last week voted to the company's offer. They have yet entered a higher claim and it ely thought that they are waiting the outcome of wage negotitions aco and BP which were taking his week. tu :ri Esso drivers have also turned down a similar offer and they too are holding fire at the moment. It is believed that tanker drivers generally are looking for roughly 25 per cent increases on their basic pay, taking them to around £98 a week.

The Transport and General Workers Union has said it does not want productivity agreements included in the figures — these are a separate matter. If the oil companies were to go beyond their 20 per cent offer it is likely that they would be seeking to incorporatea productivity element in the settlement.

The BP and Texaco talks that everyone is waiting for were taking place this week. Texaco told CM that its drivers had earlier warned that they were seeking "a substantial increase". The Texaco talks started on Tuesday as we went to Press and were scheduled to continue on Thursday.
