Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE HOME Office has admitted that it is becoming 'increasingly concerned' over the health and safety of Hestair Dennis managing director John Smith held by the Iraqi authorities since July.

Despite continued requests for embassy officials to be allowed to see Mr Smith, the Iraqis have refused any diplomatic access and have still not outlined the charges 'against him.

Mr Smith is the second businessman to be held by the Iraqis.

Wimpey construction executive Christopher Sparkes has just completed his first year in an Iraqi prison after his arrest last September and his 'secret' trial earlier this year. Mr Sparkes was accused of bribery and economic espionage.

Foreign Office officials are now worried Mr Smith could suffer the same fate as Mr Sparkes.

"We have not been told anything about him although we have been.pressing for information," said a Foreign Office spokesman.

"We have made continued approaches to Iraqi authorities for any details at all. So far there has been no development at all.

"It would be true to say we are concerned for his safety."
