Clive Beattie has taken over from David Brown as managing director of Tankfreight Ltd, the National Freight Corporation's group of companies engaged in bulk transport and tank farming.
Mr Beattie, who joined the NFC in 1972, was most recently assistant managing director of Eastern BRS.
At Pickfords Heavy Haulage, D. A. McLean, low-loader services manager, and A. C. MacKinlay, special services . manager, have been appointed to the board of directors.
Both men have spent 45 years in the industry, reaching their present positions through traffic operation and branch and area management.
John Storar, who has been a director of the Mitchell Cotts Group since 1973, has been appointed non-executive deputy chairman.
Arthur Donegani will take over as manager of BP Oil's distribution division on December 1. He replaces Dennis Varney, who died suddenly in August.
Mr Donegani's new position will give him responsibility for all road distribution of petrol and oil products within the UK. At present, he is employed in distribution with BP Trading Ltd.
Michael Howarth has joined Friars Forwarding Ltd as marketing and sales executive. He will be responsible mainly for developing business on the company's new ferry services between Plymouth and France and Spain.
A new position within Heller mann 1nsuloid, the cable tie systems manufacturers, has been filled by Alastair MacTavish. He comes to Hellermann as commercial manager, with 14 years' experience of marketing at the BICC group.
Seddon Atkinson distributors, Derbyshire Commercials Ltd, has appointed John Dawson as general manager. Mr Dawson has 32 years' experience of haulage and engineering, and is vicechairman of the Hull and East Yorkshire centre of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers.
David Eatock has moved to DAF as director of DAF Diesel, from Perkins Engines where he has worked for the last 10 years. Mr Eatock's appOintment forms part of the company's plan to build up its operation for supplying engines and components to other original equipment manufacturers.
Manor National Group Motors' chairman and managing director, R. A. Stoodley, has been appointed chairman and managing director of Oliver Rix Ltd, one of its subsidiary companies.

The new operations manager at the Port of Preston, with responsibility for all cargo handling, is Brian Ellison. On leaving the Merchant Navy in 1967, Mr Ellison joined the British Transport Docks Board.
The Firestone International Company has named Fredrick Schoen as administrative assistant to its president, J. M. Cornley, American-born Mr Schoen joined the company in 1968.
Robert McCullagh and Desmond Clarke, who formed Kinetic Mechanical Handling Ltd last year, have won the agency for Mitsubishi LPG and diesel fork trucks in Northern Ireland.
