Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Ocwt vans to 3-ton trucks together with a 2000 c.c. private car. Please tell me how the new regulations will apply to my fleet. And what will I have to do to bring it up to the required MoT standard?

AYour smaller vehicles should all

be capable of meeting the MoT requirements when in satisfactory mechanical condition. The private car is not included in the new regulations.

Regarding the 3-ton truck the new regulations require that a vehicle in service must be capable of producing 40 per cent braking efficiency with the footbrake and 50 per cent with the secondary or handbrake. It is unlikely that the vehicle you specify will be capable of producing the necessary handbrake figures and therefo-e the vehicle would not pass the MoT inspection at its maximum gross weight.

It might be necessary to reduce this weight to obtain the required braking efficiency and it would then be at this reduced tonnage that the MoT plate would be stamped. Your local dealer should be able to inform you what conversion must be carried 'out to bring the handbrake efficiency up to the required standard.
