'TN this past week three interesting exhibitions have been held I in London. The Factory Equipment •and Engineering Materials and Design exhibitions at Earls Court from November 13-18, and the National Maintenance Exhibition at Central Hall, Westminster, from November 13-16. Of the three, the Factory Equipment Exhibition is by far the largest and the most interesting.

At this, mechanical handling equipment and storage aids and methods were shown on many stands. Included in the former category were ranges of their fork-lift trucks shown by Matbro, Ltd., Lansing Bagnall, Ltd., Morstgomerie Reid Engineering Co., Ltd., Fred Myers, Ltd., who showed Hyster units including the new Hyster-Ransomes A.25A reach truck, and Conveyancer Fork Trucks, Ltd. Matbro also exhibited their Mastiff front-loading shovel, and Montgomerie Reid an interesting hydraulically operated barrel loader, in addition to their display inside the building, Conveyancer had in the outside demonstration area one of the 10-ton-capacity straddle carriers which they market.

Also to be seen on the demonstration area were versions of the Dempster Dumpster, Dinosaur and Dumpmaster bulk materials handling units mounted on an Austin, an Atkinson six-wheeler and a Foden six-wheeler respectively. These were shown by Powell Duffryn Engineering, Ltd., who featured on their stand films of the Dempster system of materials handling. Commercial vehicles to be seen inside the exhibition included a Land-Rover converted to forward control and fitted with a drop-sided timber body by Alfred Miles, Ltd., and shown on their stand together with a Miles Verrn factory 'floor sweeper. The only other was among the exhibits on the sta Securicor, Ltd., who featured one of their specially eqs security vehicles—it was not available for close scrutin Smaller stacking and pallet handling equipment was by many firms, including Lodernatic, Ltd., who displayes range of lorry loaders, including their automatic which is actuated by the load being placed on the pia Eccles Engineering, Ltd., and Heston Aircraft and Ass( Engineers, Ltd. Eccles also included on their stand two wheeled electric vehicles—the Workmaster 5-cwt. load and the Executive, a four-seater personnel carrier. their display of Sherpa stacking trucks Heston Aircral exhibited Sherpa loading tables, aluminium-alloy colh containers and Nest-a-.Bin containers for the bulk tra and storage of liquids and granulated materials. The included an interesting ramp for use on.loading banks. CI ibIe pallets were also to be seen on the stands of E. Sts and Son, Ltd., and Light Alloy Construction, Ltd., wh. exhibited rigid, storage and trolley pallet-containers; Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd., showed electric ind tractors and platform trucks and a new high-lift platform W.C.B. Containers, Ltd., exhibited a wide range of has storage and transit containers in a variety of materials interesting stacking truck shown by Gramac (Mech Handling), Ltd., had a fitting for loading drums. This turn drum from a vertical to a horizontal position at a preset Lucas Industrial Equipment, Ltd., exhibited a ran hydraulic pumps and motors and demonstrated their hydn transmission. Another interesting stand was that of W (Century Oils), Ltd., who featured various types. of C hand cleansers. Protective clothing was featured in one s of the exhibition and automatic vending machines were : by a number of concerns.

Major it among the wide range of exhibits were demonstratio preventive maintenance and stores records by a numb office equipment makers.
