Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A LORRY LOADING supervisor for Spar stores who was accused of taking part in the theft of £200,000 worth of cigarettes has won compensation for unfair dismissal.

A Birmingham Employment Tribunal has decided that Craig Dicken was unfairly dismissed from the AF Black more Spar distribution depot at Willenhall, near Wolverhampton, and awarded him £1,160.

Tribunal members watched CCTV footage allegedly showing Dicken and two other employees acting suspiciously in the loading bay as trucks were being loaded (CAI 26 April).

The firm said £200,000 worth of cigarettes had been stolen from the depot over eight months. Transport manager Jason Dibble said Dicken was picked out on CCTV by his body language. Tribunal chairwoman Vera Jones accused the firm of significant failures in dealing with the dismissal process. Dicken was not shown all the documents containing the allegations against him.

The ,160 award was the equivalent of four weeks' pay after tax.
