NI This year's International Vehicles Recovery Exhibition was used as the launching pad for REMSA — the Recovery Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliers Association.

Formed by 25 major manufacturers, REMSA aims to boost quality standards and safety and will provide a forum for discussions between industry and legislators. The association's first standards — on vehicle lifting and recovery, passenger-cab requirements and winch gear ratings — will be published soon.

Among the IVREX exhibits was Kirkcaldy District Council's £75,000 Foden 6x4 recovery truck which will be used for private work as well as inhouse operations.

The 261kW (350hp) Catengined Foden, rated at 65 tonnes GTW, has been equipped by MSM Engineering Services with Liberator rear underlift gear, twin Ramsey winches and a Mitsubishi rearview TV camera. MSM also exhibited its latest Iveco 49.10based Eurolift system.

Brimec (UK) showed its new Towlift recovery package on an air-suspended Leyland Daf 400 chassis with a rear axle uprated to three tonnes. With a factory crew-cab, aluminium bodywork and the latest LoLift spectacle lift frame, the 3.5-tonner provides a onetonne payload.

An equivalent Ford Transit SVO-based system was also exhibited by Apex Bodyworks with beefed-up front suspension rated at four tonnes.

Wreckers International showed its new Interstator Mk 21) underlift with fully extending hydraulic boom on a bare, 65-tonne-rated Seddon Atkinson Strato chassis. Once completed it will join Addington Motors' high-powered fleet.
