• New EEC rules aimed at tightening controls over the transport of toxic chemicals and other dangerous goods by road are being planned in Brussels.
A monitoring system is being studied which would use electronic information techniques to ensure that drivers stick to certain routes and their vehicles conform to technical standards.
The new proposals will be based on a study which should be completed this summer, but the controls will remain in the hands of national authorities.
