The special requirements of batteries used for engine starting are outlined in Technical Bulletin No. 4 published by Alkaline Batteries. The book includes a list of recommended Alcad nickel-cadmium starting batteries applicable to a wide range of industrial engines. For engines which are not on the list, full technical information is provided to enable an electrical engineer using the company's published performance data to establish the correct type and capacity of battery for a specific engine starting application.
