• The Mersey Docks and Harbour Company is to inaugurate a pilot scheme within its own cargo handling activities to assess whether a centralized or a decentralized scheme would be the most practical to operate under the computer lorry booking system. The pilot scheme would include an examination of coatings.
When this was reported to the transport committee of Merseyside Chamber of Commerce several members complained about continuing difficulties being experienced in the port's lorry appointment scheme. An example was quoted of four hours being taken to deliver four cartons weighing lcwt.
