MUNICIPAL authorities and concerns contracting for the making and repair of roads sometimes experience difficulty in arranging the transport of materials they require, particularly with liquids which have tabe carried While hot, or even cold. Some 11 years ago the Crow 'Carrying Co., Ltd., established its business and decided to spetialize in this eh& of work. One of the reasonsVor this decision was the fact that the governing director. Mr. Latimer Crow, and his son, Mr. Herbert H. Crow, A.M.Inst.T., were, in former years, boa closely connected with tar distillation. The company is now operating from Hart's Lane, North Street, Barking, London, E. • There are now more than 36 vehicles in use, including tank wagons having capacities from 300 gallons to 3;000' gallons, whilst the lorries can carry from 1 ton to 15 tons, The carriage of solids and liquids for road making forms a large part of the work of the concern, special attention being

paid to the need for machines to carry dressings, etc. at a tewerature considerably above atmospheric. For this duty insulatedEanks are provided, suitable loading and unloading pumps being built into the vehicles. Tipping lorries are, of course, used. for loose materials.

By the employment of such a service as this it is possible for these using spraying machines to keep the appliances at work all day, without breaking off to make transporting journeys from factories or railway yards to the scene of operations. Obviously, it is not an economical proposition to use a, special-duty machine as a plain carrying unit. The use of a Crow transporter vehicle enables the sprayer to dispose of 3,000 gallons to 4,000 gallons of liquid in a working day.

In addition to those for tar and similar liquids, tank wagons can be provided for petrol, benzole, white spirit, turpentine, alcohol, fuel oils, lubricating oils and ammonia. The company can provide also suitable machines for edible.

• HT:LW, and aoids; etc. Although particular attention is paid to the needs of the gas 'and -tar-distilling industries, a range of vehicles 'is available for many other requirements,. and regular services are in operation, one of the oldest established being from . London to Northampton and back.
