First DfT-funded quiet delivery trial goes live

THE FIRST OF SIX quiet delivery trials funded by the Department for Transport (DIT) has gone live, with results due at the beginning of July.
Earlier this year, the Freight Transport Association, the Noise Abatement Society and the DfT invited retailers and logistics firms to take part in the Quiet Delivery Demonstration Scheme (QDDS) trials.
More than 30 stores from 10 different retailers submitted applications and have now been whittled down to six sites.
Local residents are not tieing
alerted to the trials in a bid to ensure a fair evaluation, therefore the identity of the first site remains confidential until the end of the trial.
Chris Douglas, QDDS manager, tells CM: "The whole aim is about figuring out what practices can be put in place to reduce delivery restrictions, as well as preventing restrictions being applied to a site in the first place.
—There's some really interesting things coming out of the first trial already."
Douglas says he will be in a position to share the results of the first trial at the start of July.
