The Hawk and Foden the dog recently treated themselves to a day out at the Horsham Historic Vehicles Show at Ditchling„ near Brighton. Not wishing to cause a stir, the dynamic duo went incognito disguised as OMPs (Ordinary Members of the Public).
Of the many gems on display that day, this 1954 David Brown Task Master caught the Hawk's eye (left). It's one of two vehicles made for the former Reading brewer H&C Simonds. The Historic Vehicle Preservation Trust, based at Crawley, now
owns the Task Master, which is pictured with its custodians Richard and Doreen Eastman.
The tractor was in harness until the midseventies when the brewery went out of business. And before handing it over to the trust, the vehicle was given a complete restoration by its grateful employer.
Another treasure at the show was a 1950 Foden S 20 Demountable Ballast Tractor. Owner John Mitchell from Worthing (above) uses it to tow his 1950 former mobile Ford stores, sales and service trailer, which he has converted into a mobile home to visit vehicle rallies. Top man yourself John!
