Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Inadequate road links to the Channel ports are stopping economic growth, according to a report by Sussex Enterprise, which represents firms in the county. It calls for improvements in transport if industries along the South Coast are to fulfil their potential.

Alan Brooks, director of marketing for Sussex Enterprise, says: "Businesses consistently say road networks are a barrier to growth. The Hastings network is particularly limited, making it difficult for freight users to access the channel ports."

The group is urging the Government to widen the mostly single-carriageway A21, which would improve inks to London.

David French, transport manager for French and Son In Hastings, supports this view: 'The name the A21 snail trail' has stuck because it adds to your journey time," he says. "The road needs upgrading, and as a haulier any road improvement is good news."
