Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Tipton-based hauliers William Gabriel and SG Humphries heard that their licences are likely to be revoked when they appeared at a Birmingham disciplinary inquiry. West Midland Traffic Commissioner John Mervyn Pugh is considering taking disciplinary action against the two companies following convictions for the unauthorised deposit of controlled waste.

The proceedings had been adjourned in February pending appeals against the convictions (CM 4-10March).

For the two companies, it was said that fins totalling 14,946 had been paid; the companies had accepted legal advice that there was no point in appealing against the convictions.

For the companies, John McNamara disagreed with the Commissioner's suggestion that this was a fly tipping case— Mervyn Pugh said the best way of describing it was as an "environ

mentally unfriendly case''.

The hearing was adjourned until the end of July.
