• United Transport has switched from being a spot hirer to a contractor with liquid oil refiner Cargill after winning a frve;year exclusive contract which is worth £15m.
UT will provide a fleet of 46 vehicles-30 tractors and tanktrailers with 16 back-up vehicles — operated out of Cargill's Hull and Liverpool refineries.
A further six general-purpose trailers will also be assigned for work from Cargill's Hull depot. The contract follows an 18month evaluation by Cargill of alternative fleet management systems including spot hire, own management and contracting out.
The exclusive contract prohibits UT from working with Cargill's direct competitors; this mirrors the contracts that UT has with companies such as Carlsberg, Guinness and Esso.
