• Police are appealing for witnesses after a truck driver was knocked unconscious during an attempted robbery on the 4435 near Cheltenham. The incident happened at about 10am on Tuesday 7 Jury.

The 41-year-old was driving his truck from Cheltenham to Cirencester when a man flagged him down at the Cowley/Coberley crossroads.

He pulled into a bus stop, where the man had already parked his van. As he approached his vehicle to find out what the problem was, he was struck on the head from behind, knocking him out.

He regained conscious

ness and heard a man talking about his load of tyres, but it would appear the offenders then decided against stealing his cargo.

The truck driver was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital for treatment to minor head injuries.

A Gloucestershire Constabulary spokesman says: "The offender is described as black, aged 30, 6ft 1in tall and of a gangly build. He was wearing jeans, a t-shirt and a flourescent waistcoat, and is believed to have been driving a recent model Mercedes Sprinter van.

"Anyone travelling along the A435 at the time of this offence and who may have wit

nessed either vehicle should contact us."
