• Two new contracts highlight P&O's strengthening position in road transport following the sale of its contract logistics division last December.
P&O Ferrymasters has signed European distribution deals with office equipment manufacturer Ricoh and Pilkington, the automotive glazing manufacturer.
A P&O spokesman says that atthough Ferrymasters was closely linked with the P&O Trans European division, that has now been absorbed into Wincanton, Ferrymasters always specialised in pure distribution rather than logistics.
Ferrymasters has 2,000 trucks across Europe and will be delivering up to 800 loads a year for Ricoh from the UK to France, Belgium and Holland.
The Pilkington contract involves delivering parts to factories in Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland and the UK.
