His training in the commercial-vehicle field commenced in 1908 with William Allchin, Ltd., of Northampton, his uncle, Mr. C. P. Smith, being chairman of that concern. Following this, he had experience with a transport concern in the Midlands, and in 1926 was invited to join Fodens, Ltd.
