Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• About 16,000 maintenance workers in the company bus garages are to receive a 2 per cent wage increase under a productivity deal agreed in London last Friday.

The rises-5s to 6s a week—will be backdated to July 1. They are in line with recommendations of the recent Prices and Incomes Board report.

An interim increase of 31 per cent has already been paid from July 1 and the two awards mean total increases of 13s to 16s 3d a week.

The new deal has to be referred to the DEP for approval but, in view of the Board's report, government intervention is unlikely.
