New Leyland African Company : As a result of constitutional changes in the Rhodesias. a new company, Leyland Motors (Northern Rhodesia) Ltd. has been formed to take over the activities previously carried out in Northern Rhodesia at Lusaka and Ndola by Leyland Albion (Central Africa) Ltd. The address of the new company is Bristol Street, Heavy Industrial Sites, Lusaka.

Vehicle Weights: The working group of national experts examining the E.E.C. Commission's transpqrt policy proposals is to discuss vehicle weights and dimensions on January 29 and 30, at a meeting which will be attended by representatives of vehicle manufacturers and road-building concerns. This meeting is one of several sessions to be held during January; these sessions were to have been concluded by the end of December, 1963, but there has been further delay in the programme. Even the muchdiscussed proposals for a forked-rates system and a Community licence quota will not be debated by the Council of Ministers before the summer, or even possibly the autumn, of 1964.

Take-over: Cooper and Turner Ltd., of Sheffield, has acquired the business interests of the Newport Rivet Co. Ltd. and has undertaken to maintain supplies of rivets to all their former customers Good Year for Avon: Net sales of the Avon Rubber Co. Ltd. in the year ended September 28 last reached a new record, and were eight per cent higher than in the previous year. This does not include figures from the Normeir group of companies that were • acquired by Avon last January. Avon's net profit for the year was £358,106, compared With £306,679 previously.

New Number : The telephone number of the Leyland Group depot at Oldbury, Birmingham, has been changed to Broadwell 1566.

More Buses for Greyhound : Greyhound Corp., the large North American bus company, will purchase 350 new 38-seater buses from General Motors Corp. in 1964, and will build " at least another 100 " at the company's subsidiary plant—Motor Coach Industries Inc.—at Pembina, N.D. Cost of the 450 buses is expected to be about £7m. Extensive travel to and from the New York World's Fair is expected to boost bus business in America this year.
